In the hands of a skilled drone pilot (yes they really are called pilots) a security drone fitted with a hi-resolution camera can record any activity that would otherwise be undetected. The images are relayed to the operator in real time. They can go literally anywhere on the site especially where it would be unsafe to send a worker. Drones are now widely used by most of the emergency services for fast and safe surveillance at accident scenes when needed.
LOW LIGHT IS NOT A PROBLEM
Drones have come a long way since they first came on the market as a toy, albeit an expensive one. Modern technology has moved very rapidly and drones vary in size from hobby drones that you can fold up and put in your pocket, to the industrial size up to two metres across. Low light is not an issue as the surveillance drones are equipped with 'night vision' that can literally see in the dark. A single drone can cover a wide area in a very short space of time and quickly pinpoint any areas of concern, or detect intruders.
